This park is located in Maasai territory. The Maasai Steppe is a vast area in northern Tanzania. It was established in 1970 and its size is not large. The area is 2600 km2, there is a huge number of beautiful mature baobabs (adansonia digitata). These ancient trees rise to the sky with dry branches, only here and there they have leaves. Baobab plays a big role in the life of the Maasai, they often build their manata (houses) around it or use it as a pantry. The fruit (nut) of the baobab has a sour taste, small children often chew it dyed with food coloring, it is a local candies.

The permanent Tarangire River, after which the park is named, winds its way through the park, providing the animals with a year-round source of water. The park is not surrounded by a fence, so the animals freely migrate to the nearby Lake Manyara NP when the water level in the river is lower. A huge number of elephants live in the park. You will also see various species of antelopes, from impalas, waterbucks, Thomsons gazelles and also gnus. We can find over five hundred species of birds in the park. You can see beasts like lions, cheetahs, and even leopards are also occasionally spotted resting in the treetops.

Sample program:

Tarangire is located two hours drive from Arusha city. You can therefore visit as part of a one-day safari, or combine the visit with the nearby Ngorongoro or go further to the Serengeti and thus create a safari program of up to five or more days.
