When to go on a trip

Tanzania is a country located on the Equator, so a good time to visit is practically throughout the year. There are no four seasons here.

The climate of the country is tropical, humid and warm.

The average temperature is around 31 degrees, but temperatures can vary.

It is generally warmest from November to February, then light rains come in March and April and cool down temperatures to 20 degrees. It is cooler from May to August.

More rains appear in September and last until November, but this does not mean that it rains continuously. For example, a safari with a vacation in Zanzibar in April is not such a big risk. The main season is from November to February when the Great Migration herds are in the central Serengeti and then in July and August when you can see them crossing the Mara River, the border river with the Maasai Mara Park in Kenya.

What to take with you

Throughout the year, it is advisable to have warmer clothes with you to visit the Ngorongoro park, whose crater is located at a height slightly below 2000m, so it is very cold here in an open car early in the morning. In the period of July and August, there is the so-called African winter. Temperatures in the Serengeti are around 22-25 degrees during the day. It´s windy in the open jeep, and the morning temperatures on safari can be surprising, even only around 10 degrees. A light feather down jacket or sweatshirt and windbreaker, and light cap or beanie are recommended. In the dry season, it is dusty in the parks on the roads, so pack a scarf, or a mask.

Choose comfortable clothes, you will mainly be sitting or standing in the car, choose earthy colors. Blue color is not suitable, in some parks there are biting tsetse flies that are attracted by the blue color.

You do not walk too much on safari, during the day you can stay in sandals with hard soles or sneakers. Flip-flops are not recommended, they can be easily pierced by the thorns of the acacia.

What not to forget: Flashlight, power bank with the possibility of charging a camera or mobile phone, adapter, repellent, sun hat, binoculars.

The best time to observe game is early in the morning from 6.00 am to 11.00 am and then from 3.00 pm until dusk. It is hot during midday, animals are often hidden in the shade under the trees.
